Three Thousand Seven Hundred Ninety-Six

The average American baby uses 3,796 diapers in the first two and a half years of life. I got this interesting fact from Good Morning America this morning. It was a segment about the "Human Footprint", what each 'average' American uses in a lifetime. It was meant to get you thinking about how each individual can "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle". Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get past the 3,796 diapers per baby. Three thousand seven hundred ninety-six! 3,796 x 2 = 7,592 diapers in the past 2.5 years. Our diapers cost roughly 25 cents per diaper, which is $1898...,Wow! Worse yet, according to my calculations I have personally changed 7,490 diapers in the last two and a half years. I have to give the other diaper changers credit, my mom has probably changed around 100 diapers during her visits and my lovely husband has changed at least 2 diapers. It is time for these babies to use the toilet! I consider myself a diaper-changing expert, but I would say it takes me 90 seconds on average to change a diaper. Some less, some more depending on the amount and consistency of the fecal matter! If I multiply 90 seconds by the 7,490 diapers I have changed, I have spent 187 hours and 15 minutes of the last 2.5 years changing diapers. Next time Travis asks me what I have done all day I am going to throw out that statistic!
